2009 General Overview

The global dance, music, culture and performing arts festival for peace.

September 25th 2009, that's when people will be joining together in venues all over the world for the 13th Annual Earthdance - Global Festival For Peace. Earthdance, which has been called "The Dance Aid for the New Millennium," has grown into the world's largest synchronized music and lifestyle event, and now occurs in well over 300 cities worldwide. This year, the Namaska collective of different musical crews around Perth are offering the Western Australian community an opportunity to support this international event and aid local charities. The highlight of Earthdance is a dance-floor link up, when every event across the world simultaneously plays the Prayer for Peace. Sunday morning in Perth Australia, midnight in London, and sunrise over the Himalayas; the Prayer for Peace is powerful unifying moment. This profound shared experience captures the essence of Earthdance and creates a moment of deep peace and unity, and a sense of global community. It is a moment that unifies our intentions for World peace and healing. Earthdance is a networking project with the aim of uniting a coalition of promoters and charities from across the world that strongly believes in peace and the future of our planet. The main mission is to bring together diverse populations around the world in a synchronized celebration of peace thus recognizing the power of the Earthdance ethos of "Think Globally, Act Locally".

"I think global events are a really hopeful sign. When something happens on one side of the planet, it naturally effects the other side. Afterall, we all share the same blue planet." -His Holiness the 14thDalai Lama in conversation with Earthdance founder Chris Deckker.

Our aim is to co- create a celebration that strengthens community bonds and celebrates life peace and the future of our planet through the mediums of music, technology, speech, dance, arts, healing and cultural diversity. We expect this event to evolve over time and take on its own distinct flavour and character.
We will make a comfortable environment which combines safety and sanctity within the fantastic setting of the West Australian bush, for people to explore themselves and the power of rhythm and dance. A space where all are equal and all can co-exist in an atmosphere of mutual respect. To encourage individuality, recognising the rights of all people to their own views and inspirations. To lend support and create networks with other organizations that align with the vision of world peace, environmental awareness, education, healing & self expression. This style of festival is where the organic meets digital and the ancient meets the future. All forms of expression through performance and visual arts are welcome, as are other positive contributions. Rhythm, dance, story, ritual and the arts have been revered as powerful ways to bridge the worlds of body, mind and spirit to bring healing to the soul, connection to the planet, and strengthen bonds of the community. It is a opportunity for people to experience the healing and transformational power of these ancient traditions that lie deep in the heart of all of us. It's a chance to celebrate together, inspire and refresh our energies. As a community there is a spirit that allows us to join together and share in the communion of celebrating life. Working together we can educate and inspire each other to create an event that reflects both our ethics and which also raises global recognition.

"The world is in a crisis of birth. Every system is breaking down and at the same time innovations and breakthroughs are emerging everywhere. The Earthdance meditation for peace, the drumming, the music - all together are a signal of global resonance and harmony to awaken the new humanity" -Barbara Marx Hubbard,Founder of the Foundation for Conscious Evolution

Together we aim to grow Earthdance over the years into an important event on the Western Australian cultural calender. We are fine-tuning and gathering ideas, as we build up contacts and resources along with community momentum to create an event of wonder and joy. We are encouraging new ideas and expressions of interest, that will add to the entertainment and enjoyment of all. Earthdance is a unique happening, our opportunity is to be a part of this incredible event which links hundreds of thousands of people with the same beliefs and desires, creating a global community for that time. The spirit of Earthdance has positive connotations for all our futures and the futures of our children. This event is a work in progress co-created by everyone who participates and attends.

2009 General Plan

Management

Earthdance in Western Australia has been an evolving event over the last 8 years, since the first one at “City Farm” in 2000 and then down south at the “Wardandi Center” in Injidup for ’01 & ’02, then to “Jarrahdale” for ’04 & ’05, then recently on to “Fairbridge Village” for ’06 and ’07. During this time, the management has changed a few times and such is the nature of Earthdance being a community oriented event, it will be passed on from one group to another over the years.

This year we have decided to start fresh again with Earthdance, a new crew, some older crew, some young, organizing a scaled back, grass roots style event that is about getting back to basics, getting back to nature, about creating an organic healthy foundation for a community oriented festive Earthdance gathering to grow from, that can be passed on to the younger generation to take over in years to come.

Major spects of management are … First aid, fire risk, shelter,
waste collection and recycling, toilets, camping, parking, market stalls, stages, power, sound and lighting.

Location & Scale

We look forward to the idea of a location a few hours drive from the city in a natural bush setting, we are targeting for an attendance of around 400 ~ 500 people this year. Not too big, not too small, enough people to make it feasible while still being easily manageable for our current infrastructure.

Charity & Community

As part of the Earthdance vision, we will be selecting a local charity in the area to donate 50% of the profits to. This charity could be a local tree planting project, other environmental work or a humanitarian based organisation helping people in need.
